Washington DC trip Update


WASHINGTON, DC
The total cost for the Washington Trip May 12-17, 2013 is $500.  The second payment of $125 is due by October 26th. The third payment will be due December 3rd.  If for any reason a student cannot go on the trip a refund may be requested prior to the refund cutoff date by sending a letter to the office requesting a refund and noting the amount paid.  Refund requests must be made before March 22nd 2013.  Requests made after this date will not be honored.

Daily Announcements for September 25th 2012

The first Washington payment is due today.

All student forms are now due.  The following students still need to turn in either an Emergency Medical form and or a field trip form.  (22students Names redacted- stop in office to see if you are one of the 22 ). Turn your forms in now before you get an after school detention.  If you need another copy – stop by the office.

We need your signed BYOT form in order to be permitted to bring your technology to be used in the classroom.

8th Grade Washington DC Trip


Washington Information – 8th Grade Trip
Dates:   May 12 – 17, 2013            Cost:  $500 
First payment of $125 is due by Sept. 28, 2012            
2nd payment of $125 is due by Oct. 26, 2012
Third payment of $125 is due by Dec. 3, 2012 
Final payment of $125 is due by Feb. 1, 2013
Cut- off date for a refund is March 22, 2013
Trip eligibility and other additional information are available in the student handbook and detailed information will be sent home with students during the school year. All school fees must be paid prior to making payments for the Washington Trip.  Deadlines must be met for all payments and also for any paperwork associated with this trip.  Students who fail to meet these deadlines will be moved to the end of the waiting list.

Daily Announcements for May 7th 2012

Let’s paint the school purple!  At lunch time, National Honor Society will be selling purple bows to tie onto your locker.  They will be $1 and benefit the American Cancer Society.  You can also buy them from the office, Mrs. Eickhoff or Mrs. Popple.  It would be great to see purple throughout the whole school.  Help support your Relay for Life team by buying a ribbon and decorating your locker.  The high school has displayed ribbons on the football fence and there is one hanging in the office, if you would like to see what they look like.

Any 8th grader interested in running for student council as a 9th grader needs to pick up paperwork in the office.  All paperwork is due May 11th.

Attn: Haley Riefstahl, Jacob Angles, Greg Coffey, Kaitlyn Reist, and Jon Heaberlin.  Each of you still have Washington paperwork that needs to be turned in now!

Daily Announcements for May 3rd 2012

Friday will be too legit! Attention everyone who earned a shirt, we are planning on wearing our t-shirts on Friday.  We will be taking pictures of everyone in their shirts for the yearbook!

The Urbana Junior High School Boys track team placed first in a home meet with Ben Logan, Tecumseh and Mad River. Winning for Urbana were Drew Carafa in the 100M dash(13.06), Tim Sidders in the 110M Hurdles(19.82) and Langston Kitchen in Pole Vault(8' 0"). Also scoring for Urbana were Nick Gavin, Justin Myers, Jack Harris, Mckay Lemieux, Jaylin Cameron, Mitchell Moyer, Swayde Finch, Jared Weller, Andrew Hecker, Cooper Johnson, Keith Gale, Tristan Williams

The girls team placed second behind Ben Logan. Winning for Urbana was Val Batova in the 100 Dash(14.53), the 400M Relay team of Val Batova, Hunter Rogan, Katy Curnutte, Morgan Hamilton,(55.94), Hunter Rogan in the long Jump(12' 8.75"). Also scoring were Molly Hamilton, Macy Pierce, Maggie Paulsen, Elaine Powell, Madisyn Horn, Sara Lingrell, Alexis Parker, Madison Larocque, Emma Burnside and Kaelyn Bertsch.


NJHS inductions will be Friday at 6:30.  See Mrs Poppel if you have any questions.

Don’t miss the Awesome Teen Extravaganza today from 3-5. There will be tons of fun.  Come on out and party!   Tickets at the door will be 5.00 for everyone.  Doors open at 3:00 pm

Daily Annoucements for April 30th 2012

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Band and Choir will be reporting to the gym and Algebra will go to the library during their respective periods.

High school cheer conditioning will be held Tuesdays and Thursday from 3:00 until 4:00 in the wrestling room starting tomorrow for those cheerleaders NOT in track. Contact Mrs. deNijs if you have any questions.

The Urbana Junior High School girls track team won the Boss Invitational with 44 points on Saturday. It was stopped after 6 events were scored due to weather. Winning for Urbana were Hunter Rogan in the Long Jump (13' 10") and Morgan Hamilton in the 100 Hurdles (17.95). Also scoring were Maggie Paulsen, Katy Curnutte, Kaelyn Bertsch and Val Batova

The boys placed third. Scoring for Urbana were Jack Harris, Keith Gale, Jaylin Cameron, Tim Sidders and Mckay Lemieux

The student Council is sponsoring a glad the OAA's are over party called Awesome Teen Extravaganza on Thursday May 4th from 3-5. There will be dodgeball, basketball, volleyball, a dance contest, music, and concessions.  Come on out and party! Presale tickets for card holders will be 2.00, presale tickets for non card holders will be 3.00.  Tickets at the door will be 5.00 for everyone.

Daily Announcements for April 9th 2012

Anyone going to Washington DC that did not fill out the food order forms from Mr. Charles today, please see him tomorrow during lunch.

The Urbana Junior High School Track teams held a quad meet on April 3rd. The boys team scores were Springfield City- 76, Urbana-68, Mechanicsburg-56, Riverside-22.
Placing first for Urbana was Makay Lemiuex in the 1600(6:02.31), 400M Relaty team of Swayde Finch, Jared Weller, Jashawn Payne and Drew Carafa(56.42), Justin Myers in the 800M Run(2:27.25), and Jack Harris in the Discus(105' 2")

Also placing for Urbana were Jaylin Cameron, Trevor Pittsenbarger, Braeden Lehman, Zach Keeler, Cooper Johnson, Tim Sidders, Andrew Hecker, Chris Ethridge, Mitchell Moyer, Langston Kitchen, Keith Gale, Donovan Osborne

The girls score was Springfield- 101, Urbana-59, Mechanicsburg-46, Riverside-15. Placing first for Urbana were Morgan Hamilton in the 100M Hurdles(18.89), and Hunter Rogan in the 400M Dash(1:09.78) and Long Jump(12' 2").

Also placing for Urbana were Val Batova, Alexis Lyons, Kaylan Turnmire, Emma Burnside, Katy Curnutte, Molly Hamilton, Mady Horn, Tabitha McCall, Alah Blevins, Alexis Parker, Kalista Kitchen, Lucy Buckalew, Maggie Paulsen.

Summer phys ed information is in the office.  If you are planning on registering, stop by the office and pick up a packet.

Wright State University is hosting an Engineering Night for junior high students.  If you are interested, see Mrs. Kurtz for more information.

Daily Announcements for Feb 16th 2012


Track practice starts March 12th at 3:00 in the junior high gym.  Everyone is invited to be on the track team, there are no try outs.  Track packets are available in the office.

7th and 8th grade boys basketball players must turn in their uniforms and locks to Coach Barrett today right after school.~ Information will be handed out regarding Awards Night at that time.

If you are interested in being in the talent show, you need to see Mr OKane during lunch or homeroom.  The talent show will be March 11th.

Attention 8th graders - There will be an 8th Grade Parent Meeting regarding scheduling freshmen classes on Wednesday, February 22 at 6:00pm in the high school auditorium.  

Anyone  interested in girls’ 8th grade club softball must attend the mandatory practice tonight from 6 to 8 at local.  Information packets are available in the office.

CALENDAR SURVEY NOW AVAILABLE
Parents are being asked to provide feedback about future school calendars. A survey is located on the district web site at www.urbana.k12.oh.us.  Responses will be accepted through January 31, 2012.  Printed copies of the survey are available in the Board Office at 711Wood Street.  Mail delivery of the survey can be arranged by calling 937-653-1402.

     PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THEIR PERFORMANCE ON SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENTS!  DETAILS CAN BE WORKED OUT WITH THE CLASSROOM TEACHER BEFORE THE REASSESSMENT.

The Urbana Junior High Yearbook pre-sale is still under way. Order your yearbook now for $25.00. The yearbook will be delivered around the second week in May 2012. Order now before time runs out.


EARLY RELEASE
There are early release days scheduled for students on the district calendar.  Jr High students will be released at 1:00pm on February 9th and March 8th.

ATTENDANCE

Please call the school by 9:00 am if you child will not be attending.  We have voice mail, so you may leave a message 24 hours a day. If you do leave a message, PLEASE STATE THE REASON for the absence. A call with no reason given does not necessarily make the absence excused. If you do not have a phone, be sure to send a note with the student the next day explaining the reason for the absences.  If there is not a call or the student does not bring a note, that student will be assigned ALC for 2 days as if they were truant from school.  If a note is brought in the following morning, the ALC will be rescinded.

FILE YOUR TAXES FOR FREE!
•                If your household income is LESS than $60,000 you can file your taxes through the Ohio Benefit Bank for FREE.  For more information, contact Tri-County CAC at 652-2246.  This free service will be offered on Saturday February 4 and appointments are necessary.

STUDENT FEES
Students may pay school fees in the office.  Grade cards will be held until fees have been paid.  Students will also not be allowed to attend school dances or receive a work permit until fees are paid or a payment plan is arranged.  A fee waiver, sharing of information form, is available in the office.

Girls Basketball:
The 8th grade girls fell to Bellefontaine 20-14. Katie Weinert scored 6 points.
 
The 7th grade girls beat Bellefontaine 44-15. Madisyn Horn scored 14 points, Hunter Rogan 12 pts, and Madison Evans chipped in 8 points.

The 8th grade girls beat Graham 32-15. Brianna Trout led with 10 points and Mallory Lyons and Maggie Paulsen each had 6 pts.

The 7th grade girls beat Graham 45-21.  Hunter Rogan had 23 pts and Madisyn Horn scored 13 pts.


Wrestling:
The Urbana Jr. High Wrestling Team defeated both Northridge and North Eastern Wednesday night.
 Winning matches for Urbana were: Jaylin Cameron, Braden Lehman, Chance Miley, Mitchell Moyer, Langston Kitchen, Skyler Morgan, Brad Murray, Tim Sidders, Jacob Angles, Zack Michael, Jack Harris and Keith Gale

Eighth graders, please remember tomorrow's field trip to Brunshold Middle School to see FMA Live!  This is a presentation on Newton's three laws of motion!  If you have not returned your field trip permission slip that you received at the beginning of the year you will not be allowed to go, so be sure that you have it turned in by tomoroow.  Also, remember to represent Urbana City Schools by dressing appropriately, no jeans with holes, no sweat pants, no droopers, no shorts, or skirts that are too short, no shirts with low necklines.  Please wear clean, comfortable, appropriate clothing.  We will be leaving at 11:45 and returning by 2:15.
