Daily Announcements March 16th 2011

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade Ohio Model United Nations teams, who have just returned from meeting with one thousand students from all over Ohio. Seventh grade team members were: Kendra Arnett, Emma Burnside, Robert Daniels, Trenton Dunham, Makay Lemieux, Sara Lingrell, Alexis Parker, and Halie Riefstahl. Eighth grade team members were: Rachel Ebert, Michelle Boysel, Hannah Preston, Frances Smith, Kathlein Lebo, Samantha Kenney, David Martin, and Amanda Pettit. Special congratulations to the following award winners: Robert Daniels – 7th grade outstanding leader; the eighth grade team, for making it to the finals with their talent showcase; David Martin – 1st place in World Problem-solving contest; Frances Smith – won an election to preside at next year’s OMUN as a council president. Congratulations to both teams and thanks for a great job of representing Urbana Junior High at this event!

Study Island Update
Study Island
Study Island is “rolling along” at a very good rate!! As of this moment, grade 8 has completed 32,495 questions and grade 7 has completed 46,242 questions! This is a very good number and I appreciate everyone’s help on motivating the kids to work on this out of instructional time!

WASHINGTON INFO
The total cost for the Washington Trip May 15-20, 2011 is $460. If for any reason a student cannot go on the trip a refund may be requested prior to the refund cut off date by sending a letter to the office requesting a refund and noting the amount paid. Refund requests must be made before March 25th. Requests made after this date will not be honored.

AGENDA BOOK POLICY REMINDERS
Telephones – The telephones in the office are business phones and should be used by students for emergencies only.
Student Messages – Only emergency messages from a parent or guardian will be delivered to students during the school day.

STUDENT FEES
Students may pay school fees in the office. Grade cards will be held until fees have been paid. Students will also not be allowed to attend school dances or receive a work permit until fees are paid or a payment plan is arranged. A fee waiver application is available in the office.

Yearbook
Order your yearbook now for $25.00. The yearbook will be delivered around the second week in May 2011.

High School Cheerleading Tryouts
Attention any 8th Grade Student: High School Cheerleading tryouts will be Monday, March 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Jr. High Gym, Tuesday, March 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Wrestling Room, and Thursday, March 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Jr. High Gym. Those students who are interested must sign up and take a packet from the office. All forms must be turned in before tryouts in order to participate. Please see Mrs. Forson if you have any questions.

MORE WASHINGTON INFO
There will be a mandatory parent meeting April 20th at 6:00 in the junior high gym. You will need to bring a copy of your insurance card. Requests for refunds must be in writing
and turned into the office by no later
than March 25, 2011.

Tickets for the District tournament game vs Dayton Dunbar are on sale in the Athletic Department for $6.00.  If you wait to purchase tickets at UD Arena, expect long lines.  Tickets at UD will be $7.00.

The HS Boys Tournament game vs Eaton on Saturday will begin at 7:30, not 8:00 as announced last night at the game. Tickets are on sale in the High School Athletic Office for 6.00. Tickets at the gate are $7.00. If you purchase your tickets through the Athletic Office 50% of the revenue will stay at Urbana. Go climbers!

The Junior OMUN meeting scheduled for this Saturday has been changed to a new time. We will be meeting from 12:30 to 2, with those playing soccer leaving at 1:30.

Track practice starts on Monday, March 7th. Please turn your track paperwork in to Mrs. Poppel this week.

Spring Soccer registration will be this Saturday from 10 to 2 at the Youth Sports building by the soccer fields at Melvin Miller Park. This is for 10 to 18 year olds to improve soccer skills by working with Urbana University soccer coaching staff and players. Cost is $75 for 6 weeks.
