2 Hour Delay for Friday, March 26th 2010.
The State of Ohio requires that testing goes in the following order; Reading, Math, Social Studies. In grade 7 the order will be reading and then Math. In order to give grade 7 an additional day to prepare, Math will be on Thursday, April 29th.

Ohio Achievement Assessment Information 2010

Urbana Junior High School will begin the Ohio Achievement Assessments during the week of April 26th. All 7th and 8th grade students will be taking the OAAs (Ohio Achievement Assessments). Count down = 16 school days prior to testing.

The testing schedule is as follows:

Parents may support our efforts by being positive about testing, encouraging students to get a good night sleep, encouraging students to practice for the test, and making sure students eat a nutritious breakfast each morning. Testing will take place each day during the morning hours (approximately 7:45 – 10:15 am), please see that students are in attendance, on time, and if necessary, schedule appointments during the afternoon. Students will receive a pre-testing snack, complements of our food service department.

Testing Incentives – In Order to Qualify for the Incentives, Students MUST:

1. Spend at least 1.5 hours completing each test including reviewing and rechecking answers.
2. Have NO unexcused absences during testing week.
3. Answer all multiple choice questions.
4. Follow directions for short answer and extended response questions. Provide the type of answer requested and answer all parts of the question using charts, tables, graphs, or written sentences as appropriate. Generally, short answer written responses, 2 point questions, should have a 3 sentence response or equivalent and extended responses, 4 point questions, should have a 6 sentence response or equivalent

On Saturday night the Cincinnati Bengals vs. the Champaign County All Star Team basketball game was held in the high school gym. The game was a near sellout and all of the money raised help support the Urbana Acme Baseball program. The game itself was close until mid way thru the 4th quarter. The Bengal players displayed their amazing athletic ability and beat the Champaign County All-Stars 100-82.

If you are planning on being on the track team YOU MUST be at tonight’s parent/athlete meeting at 6:00 pm in the High School Auditorium. (Thursday)

The 7th grade girls concluded their season with a loss to Tipp city, 35-27, in the CBC Finals. Braxton Rogan and Tori Quesenberry had 12 points apiece and Abby Curnutte finished with 3. They finished the season with a 16-1 record.
The 8th grade girls finished the season as CBC champs, defeating undefeated Tipp City 32-31. Becca Poppel was the leading scorer with 10 points. Michelle Hendricks had 8 points, Sydnee Rogan 7 points and Ellen Henry chipped in 5 points.

Excellent job to both teams for a successful season.

Talent show auditions will be next week, March 1st thru March 5th during homeroom and lunch in Mr O’Kane and Mrs Maurice’s classrooms.

Yearbooks will be on sale from Feb. 25th to March 12th. They are $20.00.

Next week is spirit week Monday: 80’s Day, Tuesday: Nerd Day, Wednesday: Plaid Day, Thursday: Lazy Day, Friday: Climber Spirit Day

On Monday, March 1st there will be an 8th Grade Parent and Student High School Information meeting at 6:00 pm in the Junior High Gym.

Jh Winter Sports Awards will be held Wednesday March 3rd @ 7:00 in the Jh Gym. Athletes must be present to earn their award.

There will be a student council teen night on March 5th from 6:00 to 8:30. The theme will be super heroes! You must have all your fees paid to attend. If you have any questions please come to the office.
