Urbana Athletic Department will be offering physicals for any Urbana Athlete currently in grades 6 through 11th grade. The physicals will take place in the UHS Gym on May 24th from 6 - 9 PM.  Cost is $10. Physical forms can be picked up in the Athletic Office or downloaded from the Urbana Athletic Website under the link Athletic Eligibility Forms.

Girls tennis open courts have been cancelled tonight; the courts are too wet.  Coach Eickhoff needs any and all girl tennis players at the Champaign county fairgrounds Friday night, May 20th, between 8:30 and 9 pm to light the luminaries.  Please bring a lighter.  If you need further information, please see Coach Eickhoff in C207.

Cheerleading tryout packets are available in the office. Cheerleading tryouts will be May 23 and 24 from 3:30 to 5:30 and May 25 beginning at 5:30 in the wrestling room.

If you are going to the zoo –
*  Bring a sack lunch--you will carry it with you--no glass bottles or aluminum cans permitted (zoo rules)
*  We will go rain or shine so please dress appropriately for the weather--no sandals
*  students should bring a string back pack (not a huge bag) that they can use to carry their lunches in, umbrellas, sunscreen etc.
*  It is supposed to be around 69 degrees on Thursday with a chance to rain.  It will be cooler at the zoo due to all of the vegetation
*  School rules apply--no cell phones even if it is your camera
*  Students can bring money for the gift shop or possible snacks--it will be up to the chaperone in charge if they allow them to go into the gift shop or get snacks


There are only a few spots left in summer PE.  If you are interested, you need to see Mrs Lewis in the HS office.  It will be on a first come, first serve basis.

If any student is interested in participating in the state track meet on May 29th, please see Ms Neff before the end of the day on Wednesday.  The cost is 15,25,or 35 dollars depending on number of events.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ELIGIBILITY
Students are reminded that fall sports eligibility is based on the fourth quarter grades.
7th AND 8th grade students must pass 75% of their 4th quarter classes in order to be eligible for Junior High and High School fall athletic programs.  Study tables will be required for any student athlete who is passing the 75% but has a GPA below 1.67.

PROMOTION POLICY
GUIDELINES INCLUDE THE
FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:
  1. A STUDENT EARNING PASSING GRADES IN SOCIAL STUDIES, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE AND LANGUAGE ARTS IS PROMOTED.
  2. A STUDENT IN 7TH OR 8TH GRADE HAVING FAILED 3 OF THE 5 CORE ACADEMIC AREAS:  SOCIAL STUDIES, MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, LANGUAGE ARTS (COUNTING AS 2 OUT OF THE 5) AT THE END OF THE YEAR MAY BE RETAINED.  8TH GRADERS WHO ARE RETAINED MAY TAKE HIGH SCHOOL COURSES IN THE SUBJECT AREAS THEY HAVE PASSED.
  3. A STUDENT HAVING FAILING GRADES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO THE HIGHER GRADE WITH DISCRETION AND THE APPROVAL OF THE PRINCIPAL.
  4. DOCUMENTARY AND ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO JUSTIFY RETENTION.
A STUDENT WITH FAILING GRADES DURING ANY ACADEMIC TERM IS RECOMMENDED TO ENTER THE DISTRICT’S INTERVENTION PROGRAMS TO BE ASSISTED TOWARD ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN THOSE AREAS

The Urbana Junior High Boys Track Team placed 2nd behind Marysville with 88 points at the 15 Team Urbana Junior High School Track Classic. Winning for Urbana was the 400M Relay Team of Jean Paul Soto, Jaymen Neff-Stickland, Sam Niswonger and Cody Grim(48.74). Also placing was ody Grim and Jean Paul Soto, 3rd and 5th in the 100Mm Dash, Grim, 3rd in the 200M Dash, Austin Curtis, 2nd in the 400M dash and 3rd in the Long Jump, Nathan Mays, 7th in the 400M Dash and 4th in the high Jump, Charles sidders, 5th in the 800M Run, Jaymen Neff-Strickland,3rd in the 110M Hurdles and 2nd in the 200M Hurdles, Kristoffer Hamilton, 5th in the 110 Hurdles and 6th in the 200 Hurdles. The 800M Relay team of Soto, Chris Ethridge, Niswonger and Jack Harris placed 4th. The 1600M Relay team of Mays, Hamilton, Curtis and Sidders placed 4th. Ethan Edwards placed 6th in Pole vault and Jack Harris took 5th in the Discus.

The Urbana girls were 5th. Placing for Urbana were Payton Moore, 3rd in the 100M Hurdles and 6th in the 200m Hurdles, Morgan Hamilton, 6th in the 100M Hurdles and 8th in the 200M Hurdles, Aubrey Norris, 7th in the High Jump, Brookelynn Russell, 4th in the Pole Vault, Katie Weinert, 7th in the Pole Vault, Tori Quesenberry, 4th in the Long Jump, Teya Buckney, 7th in the Shot Put, Landre Neer, 5th in Discus. The Urbana Junior high school Girls Track team won a four team quad meet at home with 87 points. Winning for Urbana was Mckenzie Ellis in the 400M dash(1;10.60), Payton Moore in the 100M Hurdles(17.73) , Aubrey Norris in the High Jump(4' 03"), Teya Buckney in the Shot Put(28' 9.5" and Landre Neer in the Discus(69' 4"). Also placing were Val Batova,3rd in the  100M dash, Alexis Shambaugh,3rd in the  400M dash, Teresa Guajardo, 3rd in the 800, Morgan Hamilton, 2nd in the 100 Hurdles and 3rd in the 200 Hurdles, Payton Moore, 2nd in the 200 Hurdles, Destiny VonDeylon, 4th in the High Jump, Chelsea Jones, 5th in the High Jump, Brookelynn Russell, 2nd in Pole Vault, Katie Weinert, 4th in Pole vault, Tori Quesenberry and Annie Tullis took 2nd and third in the Long Jump, Landre Neer, Mallory Lyons and Destiny Andrews placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Shot Put, DestinyAndrews and Teya buckney placed 3rd and 5th in the Discus. The Boys were also victorious with 99 points. Winning for Urbana was the 400M Relay team of Jean Paul Soto, Jaymen Neff-Strickland, Sam Niswonger and Cody Grim(49.17) and Austin Curtis in the Long Jump(17' 0"). Also placing were Jaymen Neff-Stickland, 2nd in the 110 Hurldes and 3rd in the 200 Hurdles, Kristoffer Hamilton, 3rd in the 110 Hurdles, Jean Paul Soto, 6th in the 100M Dash, Austin Curtis, 6th in the 400M Dash, Cody Grim, 4th in the 200M Dash. The 400M Relay team of Batova, Ellis, Hamilton and Quesenberry took 3rd and the 800M Relay team of Curnutte, Ellis, Mady Lanning and Quesenberry took second.
